How languages work in Attlas

Learn how languages work in Attlas. Set your chat language, upload documents in the right language, and ask questions in any language you prefer

One chat, one language

Each chat knowledge base in Attlas operates in a single language. This language is set when you create your chat and determines how your AI assistant searches through your documents.

Why does this matter? When you ask a question, Attlas searches your documents using advanced language-specific algorithms. These algorithms understand grammar, word variations, and context — but only within one language at a time, the truth source.


Setting your chat language

When you create a new chat, you'll choose its language. This should match the language of the documents you plan to upload.

For example:

  • Creating a customer support chat with Portuguese documents? → Choose 🇧🇷 Portuguese
  • Building a knowledge base with English manuals? → Choose 🇺🇸 English


Uploading documents

For best results, upload documents in the same language as your chat knowledge base.

What if my document is in a different language?

We recommend translating your document before uploading. Free tools like Google Translate, DeepL or any AI chat can help with this. Translating ensures your AI assistant can find and use all the information in your documents.


What about answers

Here's the good news: you can ask questions in any language.

Even if your chat is set to Portuguese, you can ask questions in English, Spanish, French, or any other language. Attlas will:

  1. Understand your question
  2. Search through your documents
  3. Reply in the same language you used

Example:

  • Chat language: Portuguese
  • Your question: "What is the refund policy?" (in English)
  • Attlas: Searches 🇧🇷 Portuguese documents, replies in 🇺🇸 English
